Hi, I’m Yonathan.
I’m a pianist, trombonist, composer, performer, and—above all—a teacher who loves helping students find their way into music.
A life built around music.
I've spent ten years teaching piano, trombone, music theory, and composition to students of many ages and experience levels. I hold an MA in Music and Music Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a BFA from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music.
As a working musician, I know that the best musical growth comes from a combination of good fundamentals, imagination, active listening, and real enjoyment. That's what I try to bring to every lesson.
I believe students should have room to explore their own musical tastes—from Bach and Mozart to jazz standards, pop songs, musical theatre, and video-game music.

Start with the student.
Every student brings a different imagination, pace, and reason for making music.
Lessons are flexible and responsive. Together, we set realistic goals, develop technique and listening, and choose music that creates curiosity. My goal is for students to grow not just as players, but as independent musicians with a lasting connection to music.
I’d love to hear what you want to play.
Whether you’re asking for a child or beginning as an adult, tell me a little about your musical goals.
