Beginner piano · Children & adults

Your first notes start here.

You do not need to know the notes, own a grand piano or have a piece ready to perform.

Beginner piano lessons with Yonathan start with your current experience—even none at all. Lessons can cover keyboard patterns, comfortable setup, rhythm and reading, with in-home and online options.

  • No audition to inquire
  • Keyboard and rhythm basics
  • Simple, specific assignments
  • Guidance on getting started

Before the first lesson

Tell Yonathan whether you have an acoustic piano, digital piano or keyboard. Include the make or a short description if you are unsure. The aim is to begin with a workable setup, not to purchase expensive equipment before understanding what you need.

A first set of useful skills

Early work can include recognizing groups of black keys, finding a small set of notes, keeping a beat and coordinating a short pattern. Reading is introduced alongside the sound and physical task, rather than as a long theory prerequisite.

Progress you can notice

A clear beginner goal might be to play one phrase evenly, find a note without guessing or repeat a rhythm accurately. These goals make it easier to practice with purpose. Speed and the number of pages finished are not the only ways to judge learning.

Choose the right next page

Parents looking for age and routine information can read the children’s lesson page. Adults can read about beginning later or returning to an instrument. This page focuses on the practical first steps shared by new learners of different ages.

Questions before you begin.

Do I need to learn theory first?

No. Basic theory can be introduced through the music you play.

Can I begin on a keyboard?

A suitable keyboard can be a starting point. Share its details so Yonathan can advise on suitability.

How soon will I play a song?

That depends on the music, your starting point and practice. Lessons can use short musical ideas early, but no fixed outcome timeline is promised.

Let’s talk music

A good lesson starts with a conversation.

Tell me the instrument, neighborhood and a few possible times. We’ll discuss the fit before you book.
